Raisins are dried grapes, the fruits of Vitisvinifera. Naturally raisins are sun-dried and account for the majority of the raisins produced and consumed. Dipped raisins are dried artificially and have higher moisture content than natural raisins. Golden raisins are treated with sulfur dioxide to preserve the golden color. Besides being a traditional and popular snack food, raisins contain polyphenols, antioxidants, flavonoids and iron that may benefit overall human health. The sweetness of raisins is contributed by mainly glucose and fructose, but not sucrose.
